Which IELTS test do you need?
Start with the exact requirement from your university, professional body, employer or immigration authority. Use that requirement to choose the right test and practice materials.
Academic
Usually the starting point for undergraduate or postgraduate study and professional registration. Confirm the test and scores required by the receiving organisation. For Reading practice, choose an academic passage. Summarise each paragraph before you match it to a heading.
WritingGeneral Training
Commonly used for migration, work or training and study below degree level. Check the exact test and any visa-specific conditions with the authority. For Reading practice, choose a notice or workplace text. Scan for the rule, deadline or action requested.
PracticeWhat changes?
Listening and Speaking are the same in Academic and General Training. Reading and Writing differ. Start with a short diagnostic and select the right practice materials for your test.
DiagnoseUsing this page responsibly
A learning path is a sequence of decisions rather than a promise of progress by a particular date. Select a skill, identify a task and choose a weakness to inspect through evidence. A target band can help organise priorities, but it should not replace a teacher view of the work or become a label inferred from a short practice exercise.
After a focused attempt, review one error mechanism and test the correction on a fresh prompt. If the difficulty remains, make the task smaller or revisit the relevant guide before increasing the load. If the correction transfers, choose another observable priority instead of repeatedly polishing the same answer. The band guide links all four skills without merging their assessment. Keep separate records for Academic and General Training tasks, and distinguish typed Speaking planning from audio-based work on delivery. Use the solutions page when you need to understand the scope of a listed practice destination.
