Keep the idea available while you pause

Observable problem
A live listener may notice a pause that interrupts an idea, but the location and context matter. A hesitation code needs an audio or live-observation anchor; a typed paragraph cannot establish pause length, fluency or pronunciation. Avoid labelling a thoughtful pause as an error merely because it exists. Keep uncertain observations explicitly unverified.
Why it happens
Planning the whole answer while searching for a word can make the next idea harder to retrieve. Try retaining one simple cue for the point you want to finish. This is a rehearsal strategy, not a promise to eliminate pauses. Review whether the idea remains understandable rather than attempting to optimise an unsupported timing number.
Original micro-drill
Original question: “Describe a useful object in a shared workspace.” Choose an object and one use. Speak from those cues; if you lose a word, describe the function and finish the point. A consenting partner can note what they understood. In text-only practice, review that description as content and language, with no oral judgement.
New-task transfer check
New question: “Explain a small change that would improve a waiting area.” Use a new example and a different descriptive route. Compare whether a listener can follow the completed idea, not whether every pause disappeared. Recording requires consent and is unnecessary for this page. Do not treat speech-recognition omissions as evidence of a learner’s hesitation without checking actual audio.
Next action
Keep the prompt, content cue and any observed evidence separate from assumptions about delivery. Typed answers never produce pronunciation or fluency judgements. Ask permission before recording; no recording or personal information is stored here. Use a genuinely new question for transfer, then choose one content action to practise next. An unclear or missing audio anchor remains insufficient evidence rather than a forced rating.
